SHRI  RAMANLAL ISHWARLAL VORA

Born on 26th September, 1952 as son of a Freedom Fighter at Govindpura (Veda), Taluka Kalol, Dist. Gandhinagar, became a senior prominent Parliamentarian and an active social worker of Gujarat.

Holding Degrees of B.A., and LL.B and during college days itself started public life and took part in Navnirman Movement in Gujarat. Since 1973, associated with Jansangh and worked extensively for Dalit and Downtrodden people. Headed as City In-charge of Swadeshi JagaranManch in 1993 and Sangathan Parva in 1994. Professionally a Bank Employee turned politician, started parliamentary career as Member of the Ninth Gujarat Legislative Assembly during 1995-97 as Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from the 28, Idar (SC) Constituency (Sabarkantha District) and successfully got elected as Member of the Tenth, Eleventh, Twelfth and Thirteenth Gujarat Legislative Assemblies consecutively since 1995 and held many important portfolios as Minister consecutively since 1995 in the Government of Gujarat.

Initially as Executive, held the portfolio of Deputy Minister for Energy, Petrochemical and Co-Operation in 1995; Minister of State for Cooperation (Independent Charge) and Administrative Reforms during 1998-2001; Minister for social Justice and Empowerment (Including Welfare of Schedule Castes and Welfare of Socially and Economically Backward Classes) and Labour and Employment from 22-12-2002 to 31-07-2005; Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Welfare of Scheduled Castes and socially and Economically Backward Classes from 1-8-2005 to 24-12-2007; Minister of Education (Primary, Secondary, Adult), Higher and Technical Education from 4-1-2008 to 25-12-2012; Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment (Including Welfare of Schedule Castes and Socially and Economically Backward Classes), Minister of Sports, Youth, Cultural Activities from 26th December, 2012 to 7th August, 2016.

Held the positions of Chairman of the Committee on Welfare of Scheduled Castes, Vice Chairman Law Reforms Committee of Indian Labour Conference of the Central Government, In-charge Minister of Dahod, Kutch, Surendranagar, Sabarkantha, Mehasana, Kheda, Patan, Anand & Banaskantha Districts and also a Member of the All India Committee of Ministers' for Co-operation.

Became Speaker of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly on the 22nd August, 2016.

Apart from the Parliamentary career, shouldered many responsibilities for the Society as President of the S.C./S.T. Bank Employees" Association and its Secretary for twelve year; Joint Secretary of Bank of Baroda Employees' Union; Honorary Secretary, Shree Sahayak Credit and Supply Co-operative Society for five years and also as its Vice President; Was one of the Founders of Ekata Credit and Supply Co-operative Society Ltd.; General Secretary, Bharatiya Kalyan Sangh; Secretary, Shree Bassobyasi Vankar Samaj; Secretary, Bharatiya Janata Party, Ahmedabad City Unit from 1991 to 1995; served as Member of Executive Committee and National Executive Committee of All India Bank of Baroda Employees' Federation, Mumbai and also as the Executive Committee Member of the Bank of Baroda Staff Co-operative Credit Society for three years, Shree Sahayak Credit and Supply Cooperative Siociety Ltd. for seven years and Sarvodaya Youth Welfare Society. Also rendered service as President of the Gujarat Pradesh Schedule Caste Front and Bharatiya Janata Party, Executive Committee. Has been Member of the Pradesh Executive Committee of Bharatiya Janata Party.

Being a prominent and hardworking Statesman of Gujarat, spare time for hobby of reading books, novels and poetries and enjoys sports and travelling. Visited countries like America, United Kingdom, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Dubai. As Delegate of the Gujarat Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association to the 62nd C.P. Conference held during 13-17 December 2016, he visited london,U.K. He also visited Switzerland and France as a part of his Official Study Tour.
